Posted 27 days ago by Abigail Gramlick-mueller
There are four open board positions in 2026. The treasurer position is also on the ballot. The following are your candidates. Please review their bios and then use the link to cast your vote.
Candidates: Board Member at Large:
Mary Lisa Borgstadt
She holds an ASN from Presentation College, a BSN from the University of Wyoming, and an MSN from Gonzaga University.
Mary Lisa began her career as an ICU nurse, where she earned her CCRN and developed a strong interest in cardiac electrophysiology. She has delivered care in diverse settings while maintaining a holistic, patient-centered approach. Her commitment to behavioral health integration and continuity of care has made her a trusted advocate and provider.
Outside of clinical work, she finds joy in gardening—especially roses—traveling, reading, and caring for her three beloved dogs. She has 2 grown children, and her 45-year marriage is a cornerstone of her life, reflecting the same dedication and warmth she brings to her profession.
She is running for At-Large Member of the South Dakota Association of Nurse Practitioners to champion NP autonomy, behavioral health access, and mentorship for emerging providers. She believes in the power of inclusion, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Kelli Gunn
Kelli Gunn, DNP, FNP-C, is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Owner of Dakota Premier Medical Clinic in Rapid City. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Nebraska Methodist College in Omaha and has dedicated her career to practicing Family Medicine.
Dr. Gunn is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and an active member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of South Dakota (NPASD), where she began her involvement as a student and has continued to advocate for the profession as a Board Member-at-Large since 2022. She takes great pride in being part of NPASD, working to elevate the profession and carry forward the legacy of what the organization stands for. She also serves as a preceptor for Nurse Practitioner students across the state. In addition, Kelli is a proud member of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, serving on the Board as Chair of the Member Involvement Committee and as a mentor to both undergraduate and graduate students of the Tau Tau Chapter.
As a Rapid City native, Kelli is passionate about offering quality healthcare to her community—a commitment that inspired her to open her own practice in November 2023. Her clinical focus is on creating a supportive, compassionate environment while empowering patients to take an active role in their health and well-being. Her dedication has been shaped by her work as a mentor and advocate, as well as by witnessing the remarkable successes of her patients.
Stefanie Hoffman
I began my nursing career in 2012 after earning my associate degree in nursing from Delaware Technical Community College, later achieving my BSN of nursing from Immaculata University. Having my entire registered nurse (RN) background being in emergency medicine, I worked for 9 years as an emergency room RN first in Delaware, before relocating to South Dakota with my significant other. My passion for nursing in healthcare inspired me to advance my education and I went on to earn my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from South Dakota State University in 2021.
Since becoming a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), I have worked in the acute care (or better known as urgent care) setting. I have also continued working on evidence-based practice (EBP) projects in my setting, while having the opportunity to serve on research-based councils.
Outside of my clinical practice, I stay active in the nurse practitioner community and I am member of the AANP as well as the NPASD.
When not working I enjoy running, doing Pilates/Yoga, traveling (mostly back to the east coast to visit my family), and spending time with friends and family, especially with a cup of coffee in hand.
Adam Norenberg
My name is Adam Norenberg and I'm interested in joining the NPASD Board as a Member at Large. I have previously served on the NPASD Board as Vice President for 4 years, as well as a term as a member at large. I believe that NPASD provides a wonderful opportunity to be an active member of the Nurse Practitioner field while also getting to be a part of great opportunities to bring other Nurse Practitioners together for continuing education opportunities and networking. I have been a Nurse Practitioner since 2016 most recently working full-time serving our nation's veterans as an employee at the Sioux Falls VA. Most recently, I accepted a full-time position at South Dakota State University as a Clinical Professor for the Nurse Practitioner Program.
Charice Suomala
My name is Charice Suomala, and I would be honored to be considered for a Board Member at Large position. I have served on the NPASD Conference Planning Committee for the past two years and am currently serving as the Conference Planning Chair for the 2026 Annual Conference in Rapid City.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University in 2002 and completed my Master’s degree from SDSU in 2021. I currently work full time in family medicine at Black Hills Urgent Care/Sanford Health in Rapid City.
I live in Rapid City with my husband, Jon, and our four sons—David, Matthew, Lucas, and Elias. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors in the beautiful Black Hills. Our boys are involved in cross country, Knowledge Bowl, and tennis, which keep us on the go. In my downtime, I enjoy hiking, reading a wide variety of genres, baking, and taking family vacations.
I am passionate about the future of our profession and the importance of involvement and active membership in NPASD. I deeply value the networking opportunities our organization provides and hope to support continued growth across the state by encouraging new membership and fostering ongoing educational opportunities. Thank you for your consideration.
