Vice President
Dannica Callies, DNP, CNP, FNP-C, CNE
My name is Dannica Callies, and I have served as the NPASD Vice President for the past 2 years. I served as the Secretary the 2 years prior. I’ve been a FNP for 11 years. I currently work full time as a Clinical Assistant Professor at SDSU and maintain a clinical practice as a contracted provider. I obtained my BAN from Augustana College (now Augustana University) in May 2009 and my DNP degree from SDSU in August 2013. Between graduation with my DNP degree and my current employment at SDSU, I was the primary care provider for a rural FQHC in eastern South Dakota for 7 years.
I live on a farm by Howard with my husband Barry and our two boys, Kase and Nash. My joys in life aside from being a nurse practitioner and nurse educator are my faith, my family, our pets (including 2 Corgis, multiple chickens and cats, and 4-H pigs), my kids’ activities, spending time outside and at the lake, and reading.
I am interested in re-running for NPASD office as I am strongly committed to advocating for nurse practitioners and affordable, high-quality healthcare in our state. In the past 2 years, the board has focused efforts on enhancing membership and engagement. I would like to continue our work towards this goal with the aim of being a strong organization that supports our profession.
Secretary
Sarah Schryvers, MSN, FNP
I am a life-long resident of SD. I grew up on a farm near Armour, SD. Graduated from Mount Marty College, Yankton, SD with my BSN in 1989. My husband and I then moved to Rapid City. I worked at the VAMC in Ft. Meade on the Medical floor then ICU. We then traveled with our jobs, me as a traveling nurse in Las Vegas, NV. There I worked on the ICU and also did agency nursing at various hospitals in the area. We returned to Rapid City, SD in 1997 to raise our family here. I helped to establish the VAMC clinic in Rapid City. Work then took us to Custer, SD. I became the Director of Nursing at Custer Community Hospital. My duties included managing the on-site pharmacy, Infection Control, Employee Health, Hospital (OB, nursery, medical, Swing Bed, ER) and the clinic. After 5 years, my duties expanded to overseeing Colonial Manor Nursing Home. I am proud to say that during that time, we had a nursing deficiency free state survey. I was attending SDSU West River program as a part-time student to earn my MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner while working as the DON. I graduated as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2003 and began working in Custer in the ER and clinic and traveled to Edgemont and Hill City to provide primary care in these satellite clinics. In 2008, I began working at Black Hills Family Health Clinic in Hot Springs. This clinic is now Monument Health Clinic. I provide primary care to ages newborn to very elderly. 2 years ago I began having a Diabetes clinic 1 day per month. I provide specialized diabetes care managing patients with both Type 1 and Type 2 DM. This includes managing insulin pumps and interpreting data from continuous glucose monitors. This has grown in volume and for the last year we have had 2 diabetes clinic days per month.
I work as needed for Stillwater Hospice performing Face to Face visits for recertification of patients. I also work as needed at Project Recovery in Rapid City where we provide Medication Assisted Treatment for Drug and alcohol addiction. These 2 j”side” obs have been very rewarding.
I am married to Lonnie Schryvers and have 2 adult children, Trevor and Levi. I am now a grandma to Sofia. We enjoy our time boating and fishing at Angostura Lake. My other hobbies include golfing, hiking, teaching an exercise class 2 days per week, and playing horseshoes on the beach.

I am serving on the NPASD membership committee. We really want feedback on how to make NPASD membership meaningful and supportive of NP practice in South Dakota.
I serve on the Clinical Practice Committee at Monument Hospital in Rapid City.
I have been active in the Custer community in various capacities over the last 24 years. For a short time, I volunteered with the Custer Ambulance Department as an EMT.
