Nursing leaders in South Dakota have partnered together to establish the South Dakota APRN Coalition. This Coalition is pursuing full practice authority for CNPs and CNMs in the 2017 legislative session. The Coalition is proposing legislation to modernize the CNP and CNM Practice Act, SDCL 36-9A.  There have been no major updates to this act since 1979. In addition to modernizing this Act, the legislation seeks to remove the collaborative agreement requirement for both CNPs and CNMs to practice in South Dakota. These changes will bring South Dakota in alignment with surrounding states that currently have full practice authority.

The Coalition drafted the attached documents for your use when contacting district senators and representatives to seek their support of the legislation.

  2. Scope of Practice Comparison
